We are really stoked to announce the imminent release of our new recording Accidental Sky on Northern Spy Records. This time out we enlisted guitar player extraordinaire Nels Cline to join us for some mirth and mayhem. We are really proud of this one. The first 50 pre-orders will receive a limited edition poster signed by us. Stay tuned for more news about our record release show at Le Poisson Rouge October 18th.
The new White Out vinyl LP with silkscreen cover of a photograph by Yoko Tack is now available from audioMER. Give a listen to the track “Daughter of the Mind” here.
Here’s some information about the release:
Whiteout is a weather condition in which visibility and contrast are severely reduced. The horizon disappears completely and there are no reference points at all, leaving the individual with a distorted orientation. These same characteristics could be used to describe the band White Out, the longtime musical brainchild of Lin Culbertson and Tom Surgal. In the past White Out has been heralded for the way they are able to entirely transform themselves to accommodate the creative personalities of their many prestigious collaborators who have included Thurston Moore, Nels Cline, Jim O’Rourke and William Winant, among others.
Recorded over an extended period of time, in an undisclosed midtown Manhattan location, high above the city streets, Asphalt and Delay marks the first time in White Out’s recorded history that Culbertson and Surgal have devoted an entire album to duo improvisations. Each of the five compositions captures a different shade of the multicolored spectrum of sound in White Out’s sonic universe: The gothic majesty of White Devil Black Heart; the crystalline delicacy of Daughter of the Mind; the split personality of Fragment D; the sputtered bursts of Möbius Strip; and the mercurial miniature suite that is True Mad North.
Asphalt and Delay casts White Out in a whole new light, unfettered by any external influences, they burn super nova bright.
This evening we are joined by Thurston for another ecstatic musical journey. Also appearing are the always riveting Carlos Giffoni and C Spencer Yeh as a duo, and Fat Worm of Error whom I hear employ many props.
Here’s the poster. That photoshop warp tool is pretty rad.
